Rivers are living communities with their inherent inalienable right to life, health, freedom and regeneration and should be revered and treated as such! The proposed law will go a long way to ensuring the ethical relationship and treatment of the Odra river and we urge Polish parliamentarians to adopt this law for the benefit of all living beings. All life has a right to existence, health, freedom and healthy home. Enshrining these tenets in law is a fair way to ensure those ethics and principles are enshrined in a framework which shapes human behaviour not just between our own species but more importantly between humans and more-than-human-species too.
Recognising Odra as a legal person in law is a right way to respect life and right to life of this aquatic community and is fair politics. Please and thank you. (Zoe Lujic)

It is time for we unmans to recognize and honor the profound interdependence of our lives with the whole of the Natural order, including all its waters, that are also over 70% of our own bodies. Recognizing the Indigenous wisdom of the Odra Tribe and the Odra River as entitled to personhood is a step toward this imperative, “so that we All may live.”

Recognizing the Odra River as a subject of rights, not only for its ecological value and its value to the communities that depend on the river for their survival, but also recognizing its intrinsic value, its right to exist, and the right of all the ecosystems it sustains to exist as well, is ecological justice for Nature and for the human beings who depend on it. We fully support the Odre River Legal Personhood Initiative in Poland from the Mar Menor and its basin. Mar Menor and its basin’s Tutorship is changing the governance around this Spanish ecosystem and the legal person is going ahead to the needed paradigm shift to get Harmmony with Nature. From the University of Murcia, where de Popular Legislative Initiative was moved getting 640.000 citizen’s signatures, we send our energy. Lets make the Odre River the second ecosystem in Europe with legal personality! (Eduardo Salazar-Ortuño)

We are at a time when we need new and better solutions to protect the health and livelihood of people around the world, who are evermore interconnected. What happens in one part of the world affects people in another part with increasing speed. The one thing that sustains people is Nature. We derive all our sustenance from Nature: The earth and its raw materials upon which we stand and harvest that drives industry; the life on earth that provide us with food, medicine, and clothing; the water that quenches our thirst; and the air that we breathe. All this is Nature. We think of all this components of Nature as renewable, and if not in such abundance supply that they may as well be renewable. That is a false conception as we can see clear evidence of social and economic turmoil because of the deterioration of these resources and the competition for that which remains. We are truly in an age exemplified by the tragedy of the commons. If we care, truly care, about our children and our children’s children, we must take action NOW. We must re-think how people and interact with Nature, and shed the old paradigms that, while they served a purpose to get us from the past to the present, they will not serve us for the future. We need to adopt new and transformational approaches and relationships with Nature. One key action that we must take is to attribute legal rights to Nature. We must put Nature at the center of development, whereupon social and economic goals can be sustainably set and achieved. (Kevin Hill)

To the members of the Polish Parliament: please use this unique chance to make a difference – not only for the lives of current and future generations, but also for the lives sustained by the Odra river, which includes our next of kin – animals and plants. You are being given the chance to make history – please use it.
